What is the kingdom like? In the parable of the mustard seed Jesus says that, at first, it’s so small that to begin with it went mostly unnoticed. But it’s defined by such massive and rapid growth that 2000 years later there are representatives of the kingdom all over the world, even in your family, your friendship group, your workplace. In the parable of the yeast Jesus’ reminds us that his kingdom totally transforms every person and society it touches. So, the parable of the treasure in the field and the pearl of great price ask us to think bigger about what the kingdom is worth and what it takes to enter it. Jesus’ offer to us is “unimaginable splendour for unconditional surrender”. Nothing less is on the table and nothing else will do. To receive the kingdom you have to go all in. Is it worth it? It’s a bargain! We surrender everything to become rich beyond our wildest dreams and it’s all made possible because of God’s grace – God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. So will we sell everything to gain the treasure that Jesus willingly laid down his life for us to receive?
