Be With Jesus

As a church we will be looking at how we can grow deeper in ‘Being with Jesus’. To be a follower of Jesus in the early church was to be called a member of ‘The Way’. This involved a lifestyle that was built around the template of Jesus’ own life. Over these next few months we will be learning what this looks like and how these practises can help us to become more and more like Jesus.

  • Be with Jesus: Work, Rest & Recreation

God never intended for us to live segmented lives. God chose us to be his partners to create a society, towns and the world as a place where everything thrives. God gives us our identity and dreams of the part he calls us to play. Made in his image God set us an example of work and rest. Gen. 1:26-28; Rev. 22:1-5

  • Be with Jesus – Unplugged

Henri Nouwen said ‘Without solitude it is virtually impossible to live a spiritual life.’ In todays increasingly fast paced digital age with distractions and busyness always present how do we put into practise what Jesus modelled and taught us about living a life that can bring peace, contentment and where we might even thrive?

  • Be with Jesus – Self-Denial

In today’s world we are bombarded by advertising telling us that we need to have whatever we want RIGHT NOW! We need to go on holiday, buy a new car, wear the latest fashions… We live in a society focused on self-gratification, not self-denial. But Jesus calls us to a life of daily sacrifice. What does this mean and how can we put it into practice without having to live like monks and hate our lives? Today’s talk looks at this challenging topic from a practical and relevant perspective that you can apply today, tomorrow and hopefully for the rest of your life. Luke 9.18-27

  • How do we change – Intentional Spiritual Formation?

Spiritual Formation Diagrams Most people say they admire Jesus and the things he did. Jesus gives an invitation to anyone to follow him and be like him, but nothing will change unless we are intentional changing how we live. In this talk Simon outlines a pathway to intentional change to be like Jesus using the template of Jesus’ life. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible, and the good news is that it doesn’t involve just trying harder. Rather it is entering into a life of training

  • Be with Jesus – Learning How to Pray

Ephesian 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. After having put on the full armour of God, Ephesians 6:18 says to pray with “all kinds of prayers”. What are all kinds of prayer? How does the Spirit lead us to choose the right kind of prayer for the situations we are facing? We will look at patterns of prayer and examples of different kinds of prayer from the word of God that will enhance our prayer lives and make prayer more exciting and effective.
